Comparison of metoclopramide–dexamethasone combination and metoclopramide alone for prophylaxis of postoperative nausea vomiting in laparoscopic cholecystectomy

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Post operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is an important concern in laparoscopic surgeries. Aim of this study to identify the role metoclopramide dexamethasone combination for prophylactic management post cholecystectomy comparison alone.
 METHODOLOGY: The group comprised 150 patients. These were patients with symptomatic gallstones whom elective was planned. Study conducted from 15-04-2018 15-07-2019. Non-probability consecutive sampling technique used.Two groups generated by simple random method. Group M given injection only, whereas D+M injected both metoclopramide, intravenously, before induction anesthesia. Parameters observed 24 hours during postoperative period included; nausea, episodes vomiting, requirement rescue antiemetic drugs total duration hospital stay after surgical procedure.
 RESULTS: In (dexamethasone+metoclopramide), out 75 patients, 8% developed while 5.33% had along emesis. While (metoclopramide), 16% only but 18.7% complaints Three 75, that 4% (D+M) extended admission (> hours), groupM, percentage 13.33% (n=10) patients.
 CONCLUSION: A prophylaxis against PONV preferred alone.
